About the role
As a Principal in the Strategy team, you will take the lead on project engagements and forge trusted
relationships with clients, seeking out new opportunities to grow the practice.
With a background in strategy and innovation, you will play a critical role in shaping our customer
proposition, introducing new skills and competencies to our team. You will take a lead in defining the
innovation services and design thinking capability and help raise the bar for how we tackle client
challenges in this space.
You will also tap into the complimentary expertise within Research practice and broader
research, trends and analytics capabilities across the wider Strat 7 group to meet client needs.
Key responsibilities include taking a leading role on projects - ensuring you take the appropriate role on each project,
allowing room for others to develop and shine whilst ensuring the highest quality outcome for
the client. Involvement at all stages of the project from interrogation of the brief, to design of the
solution, analysis and insight generation, creation of impactful outputs and taking part in
workshops and debriefs, and helping clients to implement our recommendations through
business change. As well as demonstrating and ensuring the consistent use of consultancy tools, you will ensure best in class quality of both your own delivery of client work and the team’s, and build effective and efficient project teams as required by the brief/scope of project. You will take overall responsibility for the delivery of projects, acting as an escalation point as required.
In terms of clients, you will lead existing accounts – managing client relationships and developing new business
opportunities within these clients. Play a leading role in writing proposals and having responsibility for pricing of projects,
effective deployment of resources and taking a long-term view in building client relationships. You will be responsible for development of people as part of a project team – giving feedback, identifying opportunities for Associates or less experienced Principals to develop. As well as sharing ideas through collaboration, coaching/buddying with colleagues you will demonstrate skill sharing on workshop techniques, Design Thinking or other methodologies core to the Strategy Practice with the rest of the business. While taking a mentoring role with Associates for longer term career development, you will be spotting and dealing with (or escalating) any issues with performance, happiness or wellbeing
of both colleagues and Associates.
As a Principal you are expected to take a wider interest in the business and get involved
with projects/initiatives outside of the client and project responsibilities, as well as supporting business development activities, including supporting with client events and producing thought leadership content.
About your background and skills
innovation team or within an agency/consultancy delivering strategy and innovation
workstreams for clients. You will enjoy motivating and engaging clients/stakeholders at a senior level, building trust and
enthusiasm with client teams. you will facilitate workshops, while incorporating ideation and co-creation techniques. You need to have familiarity with Design Thinking and Service Design frameworks and techniques as well as synthesising diverse perspectives and data sources into clear conclusions and recommendations for clients/senior stakeholders. You must have strong analytical skills, with exposure to quantitative and qualitative research workstreams, and enjoy problem solving, like to get stuck in, and be someone who isn’t afraid to challenge the thinking but does so with respect and compassion. A natural curiosity for how consumers think and human behaviour. You are able to make the
link between evidence and commercial opportunity.
