Atlassian: Finding a Director to Build a World-Class Creative Studio

Atlassian has millions of users across their products and their mission is to unleash the potential of all teams globally. The Creative Team at Atlassian is critical in bringing their brand to life and they were looking for an Executive Creative Director to lead a growing team of 40+ creative professionals.

 

The Problem:

They were looking for someone to work closely with their Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Customer Experience Officer, and partner closely with the Brand Marketing team to push the creative integrity of campaigns as well as build their creative team into a world-class studio.

 

Talent they needed:

The role had many components such as overseeing design systems and growth, brand architecture, and development and structuring of the creative studio and so required an in-depth search across the market to identify someone who had built a well-known, high-growth brand. We were also looking for someone who had scaled a team and had the right approach when it came to nurturing and coaching creative talent as well as fostering collaboration across the business.

We held weekly calls and supported with designing and delivering the recruiting process as well as conducting initial screening calls of 90 candidates, shortlisting this down to 15 for the team to run through the interview loop. In 3-months we managed to identify the exact right fit and the team was able to build a case for the hire having met an incredibly strong roster of talent.
